The Village of Avis
This small Alentejo village , after being conquered from the Moors in 1211, was donated to Fernando Anes, Master of the Friars of Évora, future Order of Avis, with the purpose of populating it and building the castle.
Three of the six original towers can still be seen: the Rainha, Santo António and São Roque. Of particular note are the castle , the main church and the convent of São Bento .
